Early works to begin on new Grafton bridge

THE next phase of the new Grafton bridge project will start Monday with preparation work set to begin.

Early work on the project involves upgrading about 200 metres of the Gwydir Highway in South Grafton (the road between the Pacific Highway and the roundabout at Bent St) to provide a four-lane dual carriageway divided by a central median strip and pedestrian refuge.

The work, to be completed by Roads and Maritime Services is expected to provide immediate benefits to traffic flow.

Traffic-control measures and the relocation of utilities will also be carried out prior to start of the construction phase.

Works will take place Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm.

Partial lane closures and some temporary property access restrictions may be required.

Work updates are to be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.
