Easter hats show wows the parents
THERE were almost as many mums, dads, nans and pops as pupils at the South Grafton Public School Easter Hat Parade.
Family and friends packed under the roof of the covered area at the infants school campus on Thursday, although the numbers meant many had to brave the sunny conditions to catch the parade.
The pupils - no doubt with plenty of assistance at home - had shown almost limitless ingenuity to come up with headgear with an Easter theme.
School principal Peter Hickey, who was wearing rabbit ears, said his staff and the students had found the whole experience immensely enjoyable.
"You can tell the teachers have been really enjoying this," he said. "They've gone to lots of trouble to come up with their own hats as well as helping the children."
Mr Hickey said the huge turnout of parents and grandparents showed what an important part the school played in the life of the community.
"The Easter Hat Parade is one of the school's big ticket items," Mr Hickey said.
"The parents and families turn out in numbers for all our major shows.
"It's a really nice display of the community spirit we have here and in the school.
"I'm sure everyone here today enjoyed the show."
