Abbott to appoint ex-Telstra boss to head up NBN board

THE Abbott Government is expected to appoint former Telstra head Ziggy Switkowski to lead the NBN Co, after the entire board resigned on Monday.

Mr Switkowski, also the chairman of Queensland bank and insurance group Suncorp, was expected to be announced as the new head of the Federal Government's broadband company.

He replaces former NBN Co chief Mike Quigley, who resigned earlier this year in preparation for the Coalition's election victory.

Mr Quigley's resignation preceded the resignation of his replacement, chairwoman Siobhan McKenna and the rest of the existing board.

Mr Switkowski was expected to lead a new team to drive the Coalition's fibre-to-the-node broadband roll-out.

While the resignations have not been officially accepted yet, the Cabinet is expected to endorse them, as well as Mr Switkowski's appointment, in a meeting next month.
