Eva Mae’s special leap into the world
THE odds of being born on a leap day are one in 1461, but that meant nothing to one of Grafton's newest residents.
After making her parents wait a week past her due date, Eva Mae Borg made her grand entrance into the world yesterday morning at Grafton Base Hospital, weighing 4.05kg.
She was, at the time of print, the only baby born on February 29 in the Clarence Valley this year.
Sleeping peacefully, the newborn was blissfully unaware she would have to wait another four years to celebrate her first birthday.
Mother Jenna Borg said Eva was due on February 22, so she didn't think about the possibility of having a leap year baby until she was booked in to be induced.
It wasn't needed though, with little Eva deciding February 29 was the day for her regardless.
"Clearly she was meant to be born today," she said.
"But it will be fun trying to explain it to her when she's older, you don't really get a birthday this year."
Eva is the fourth girl for Jenna and Matt Borg, and her siblings seemed fairly excited to have another little sister to play with.
"We have an Australia Day baby as well, so we're doing pretty good picking out dates here," Mrs Borg laughed.
"I think she got the better deal because at least she gets the day off every year."
