Milestones mean Abi is closer to coming home

THE world is again growing into a larger-than-life place for Abi Wilkinson, who has spent the past week breathing through a portable ventilator and beginning school.

Every hour the four-year-old spends using the ventilator is a step closer to coming home to her family home in Yarwun.

Last year on April 4, four of the five members of the Wilkinson family were involved in a head-on collision in Brisbane.

The accident left young Abi a quadriplegic, undergoing rehabilitation and treatment at the Lady Cliento Hospital in Brisbane for the past 11 months.

Mother Tanya Wilkinson says she is constantly amazed by her youngest daughter, who is keeping up with milestones for her age.

"This means we now have some hope back that we may be able to get her out of hospital in 2015," she said.

"She has shown her determination and strength a million times over and continues to."

Abi attends school every day in hospital.

She has already won over her teacher, who says she is well and truly ready to tackle big school.
