BUNDABERG Rum may not have had this much media coverage since lightning struck the factory back in 1936.

But it's been less a stroke of luck and more a stroke of genius that's created the Bundaberg Blenders Edition 2015 which was named the Best Dark Rum in the World in London.

Launched in last May, Blenders Edition 2015 is a described as complex yet sweet rum, finished in port and sherry barrels, delivering a long and smooth finish. The blend is layered with hints of raisins, vanilla and spice and is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.

Everyone from Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett to the Good Food Guide has lauded the achievement, and the company is - understandably - in high spirits.

"To win so many awards is a fantastic achievement for the distillery and, as a Queensland brand, the region as a whole," said Bundaberg Rum regional manager Duncan Littler.

"We're proud to be flying the flag for Australian rum across the world and to add this award to our collection."

In other boozy news, Old Pulteney's Vintage 1989 won the single malt whiskey race, while Tasmania's Forty Spotted Gin nabbed the best gin design for its winter release.

"It's really important, that now Bundaberg Rum is acknowledged as the best rum in the world, I think it's really important that we all celebrate our success and more importantly recognise that this is an iconic brand made in Queensland, made in Bundaberg, not only for us, but now for the world," said Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett, in a rather stately video congratulating the rum brand.
