Excitable Perth couple succumbs to the MKR pressure cooker

PERTH'S "feisty foodies" Kat and Andre are the life of the party, but struggled to pull off their My Kitchen Rules dinner party tonight.

The engaged couple promised a seafood feast at their instant restaurant but their guests were left wanting more after three undersized courses.

Things started to go wrong when they failed to buy enough fish for their entrée.

After pointing out Queenslanders Jac and Shaz didn't smoke their own salmon for their entrée, it turned out Kat and Andre weren't confident in the use of their own smoking machine.

"When the plate hit the table it didn't look like home cooking," Pete said of their smoked cod entree.

"However that crunchy mash, there's no seasoning to it. (It's) very, very, very bland. I'm sure the hero of this plate was meant to be the smoked cod. It was cod but it wasn't smoked."

The judges were also unimpressed with the portion size of the first course.

"You've got a small piece of fish, a large crunchy mash there, the fish was gone in a couple of small mouthfuls… but it was cooked beautifully," Pete said.

"The flavour combinations you had, the concept of it was brilliant."

Manu challenged them to "put the smile" back on his face.

But things only got worse as Kat and Andre struggled to assemble their crayfish ravioli.

As the guests waited more than two hours for the main course, Robert tried to keep the table entertained by telling some of his signature cowboy stories.

But there were only so many cattle yarns and turkey impressions the Texan could tell to pass the time.

As their pasta dried out on the bench, Kat and Andre had no choice but to serve just two or three pieces of pasta to their hungry guests.

"The crayfish should have been the star of this plate," Pete said.

"If you ate it with the tomatoes you lost it completely."

They rounded out the disappointing night with a tiny chocolate tart.

"I think you've been quite consistent with the three courses tonight, stingy with all of them," Manu said.

"Again when you look at sizes you've got a small tart and a big spoon of cream and a raspberry cut in half. I'm left wanting more."

Robert and his daughter Lynzey will host their instant restaurant in the Blue Mountains tomorrow night.
