Faith in Monster Slide event sliding fast as contact ceases

ORGANISERS of a giant waterslide event planned for Caloundra have been criticised for failing to deliver on ticket refunds after the event's cancellation.

The Monster Slide event was to be held on Burgess St last weekend but was postponed to September at the last minute.

The official reason was poor ticket sales, despite the event's Facebook page advertising at least one of the two days as "sold out".

Eumundi's Kerry Hartshorn is one ticket-holder who will not be able to attend the re-scheduled event and says there has been no sign of her promised refund.

She bought $246 worth of tickets for her family.

"It was a lot of money, but it seemed like such a great thing for a family to do," Ms Hartshorn said. "We were disappointed when they contacted us by email and told us it had been called off."

She immediately emailed organisers to seek a refund and received a "generated" response that included an order confirmation number and a promise to respond to all emails within two days.

More emails from her received the same automated response about inquiries being dealt with in two days.

"By this point I was starting to feel like something fishy was going on," Mrs Hartshorn said.

"On closer inspection of the tax invoice/receipt, it lists the Monster Slide Australia ABN as TBA - which I thought was odd.

"I have also posted a message on the Monster Slide Facebook page and had no response.

"It has now been seven days and other than the generated automatic reply I have had no other communication."

The Daily's attempts to contact event organisers were also unsuccessful.

Late yesterday Mrs Hartshorn received an automated email thanking her for her patience and advising that her credit card would be refunded in the next week.

"I guess we will just have to wait and see - there's not much else we can do," she said.

"It certainly does sound suspect to me ... no ABN, a phone number that doesn't ring ... the more I look into it, the more I wonder."
