Missing Wollongbar teenager contacts her family

UPDATE 10:30am: THE family of missing Wollongbar girl Riley Steer still hold grave concerns for her safety and are calling for volunteers to help hand out flyers around Lismore.

Family, friends and volunteers contacted through social media will gather opposite McDonalds in Lismore at 11am before heading to CBD street corners to distribute the flyers.

Riley, 15, was last seen on Saturday about 6.30pm walking west along the Bruxner Highway toward Lismore.

Her mother, Deb Byron, said she received a text message from her daughter's phone on Sunday evening to say she was with friends.

But Mrs Byron said they were not certain Riley had sent the message.

"If she could just call us, her brothers or sisters or one of her friends to let us know she is ok," she said.

Riley is described as being of Caucasian appearance, slim build, approximately 168cm tall, long brown hair, hazel coloured eyes.

She was last seen wearing a short denim shorts, a white singlet and carrying a purple bag.

Anyone with any information about Riley is urged to call Lismore police on 6626 0599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

UPDATE 3pm: THE family of missing Wollongbar girl Riley Steer are still concerned about the teenagers whereabouts.

They have had no contact with the 15-year-old since a text message was sent from her phone on Sunday night.

They urged anyone with any information on Riley's location to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

UPDATE 10.40am: MISSING Wollongbar teenager Riley Steer has made contact with her family to let them know she is okay. 

Ballina police Inspector Nicole Bruce said the 15-year-old girl sent a text message to her family last night to help alleviate their fears about her being missing.

"She sent a text message to her family on Sunday to let them know she was with friends and ok," she said.

Insp Bruce said police were contacting friends and making enquiries at schools today to try to locate Riley.

Police believe Riley is in the Lismore area.


Sunday: POLICE have grave concerns for the welfare of 15-year-old Wollongbar girl Riley Steer after she went missing on Saturday afternoon.   

Inspector Matt Kehoe from Richmond Local Area Command said Riley was last seen around 6.30pm on Saturday walking towards Lismore.

She is described as: caucasion with long brown hair, 1.6m tall, slim build, hazel eyes and she may be wearing short denim shorts, white singlet and carrying purple bag.
