Business scheme toasts three years

ENTERPRISE Connect, the Australian Government’s $50 million-a-year small business assistance program, is celebrating its third birthday.

Since 2008, Enterprise Connect has helped more than 7500 businesses with a range of services, including advice, researcher placements, workshops, events and grants.

The popular Tailored Advisory Service grants scheme has helped a wealth of these businesses improve the way they do business in the long term.

Celebrating Enterprise Connect’s third birthday, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said its work had never been more important.

“The rising dollar, increasingly competitive global markets, and the low-carbon economy provide challenges for Australian industry,” Senator Carr said.

“The Labor Government won’t stand by and watch Australia’s small and medium-sized businesses fail.

“We will continue to help them transform through initiatives such as Enterprise Connect.”

To help businesses rise to new challenges, new elements are progressively added to the Enterprise Connect program.

These include adapting to climate change (Clean 21 Technology Innovation Network) and increasing competitiveness (Buy Australian at Home and Abroad).

“As we celebrate Enterprise Connect’s third birthday, I would like to highlight some of the great business transformations made possible thanks to its work,” Senator Carr said.

“Pinz, an Adelaide-based wholesale blind and awning manufacturer, also came to the Government through Enterprise Connect, to establish a new direction for the business.

“The transformation saw it become a Manufacturer’s Monthly Endeavour Award winner during last year’s National Manufacturing Week.

“Northern Project Contracting, an indigenous-owned business servicing the civil construction and mining industries, also came to Enterprise Connect last year for an independent performance assessment.

“Our advice helped this business improve its performance and it has since won a national Telstra Business Award.

“Twenty-two businesses who have partnered with Enterprise Connect are finalists in this year’s Endeavour Awards.”
