Festival ends with fun run

ORGANISER of the Jacaranda Festival Fun Run, Andrew Black, is hoping to see a strong local showing in the event this year.

The run will be the last event of the Jacaranda Festival and will start on Sunday, November 3.

During 2012 almost 500 people took part and this year with 2km, 5km and 10km courses, there will be a run for everyone.

Talented young Coffs Harbour runners dominated last year's event.

But both Britney McMullen, who was the overall 10km winner and Matthew Berrington, who was the overall 5km winner, are not expected to compete

because they have left Coffs Harbour to attend

university.

This should open up opportunities for upcoming local runners but Coffs Coast Flyers, a Coffs Harbour-based running team, is expected to make a strong showing.

Their team includes 13-year-old Joshua Guy, the overall 2km winner in 2012.

Organiser Andrew Black was hoping competitors would embrace online entries this year.

And prospective runners can sign up at the Jacaranda Festival's website

jacarandafestival.org.au from next week onwards.
