Films from famed Banff fest
LIVING in North Queensland, many of us have never seen the snow.
That is before the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour rolls into town.
Hot on the heels of the largest, and one of the most prestigious, mountain festivals in the world, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour has hit the road, with stops planned in more than 390 communities and 35 countries across the globe.
It all began in 1976, in the mountain town of Banff, Canada.
That's where the week-long festival in November attracts more than 300 films entries; award-winning films and audience favourites are among the films chosen to travel the world.
Award categories include: Best Film on Mountain Sport, Best Film on Mountain Environment, Best Film on Mountain Culture, Best Film on Exploration and Adventure, People's Choice Award and more.
Travelling from remote landscapes and cultures, to up close and personal with adrenaline-packed action sports, the Banff Mountain Film Festival is an exhilarating and provocative exploration of the mountain world.
This year's Australian tour will showcase 2 ½ hours of breathtaking films that will transport you from the heart of the African Congo, through deep powder and an emotional rollercoaster with some inspiring snow lovers, to the heights of Mt Everest on a world record breaking Summit to Sea expedition with some very unassuming heroes.
From the end of April until the end of June, World Expeditions bring the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, to 17 communities around Australia. Be warned, screenings can sell out in advance so book early.
Catch the film festival at the MECC on Wednesday, May 2 at 7pm.
