Finals spot not a done deal for Iluka
LCCA CRICKET: A discrepancy in round eight could come back to haunt Iluka as the club fights to secure fourth spot on the Lower Clarence First Grade ladder with two rounds remaining.
It appeared the job was done last week when Iluka comfortably accounted for fifth-placed Lawrence.
But this week the club was officially docked eight competition points for not entering its scores from a seven-wicket loss to Wanderers on December 3 on time.
"Iluka lost eight points for not putting their score sheet in on time in a match earlier this year,” Lower Clarence Cricket Association recorder Matt Farrell confirmed.
"Overall enforcing the rule for all teams to have their scores entered by midday Monday has worked pretty well, considering this has been the only points deduction in the senior grades so far this season.”
Iluka is now perilously close to missing the finals, sittng on 58 points, just one point ahead of Lawrence.
Today Iluka hosts Maclean United, who are in a two-horse race with Wanderers for the minor premiership, and next week Iluka takes on third-placed Harwood.
However, Lawrence will need to produce something special to leapfrog Iluka. They have a tough task against Wanderers at Barry Watts Oval today before heading to Yamba Oval to take on Maclean United in the last round.
