COOLER conditions on the weekend helped firefighters bring under control 17 fires burning near Tabulam.
The fires were burning out of control last week, threatening homes and properties in the Paddys Flat region.
In a massive offensive on Friday night, firefighters ignited a 10km containment line to burn out sections on the south-eastern and north-eastern sides of the Paddys Flat fire.
The offensive was successful and yesterday the fire was burning within containment lines. 3000 hectares of bush was scorched.
Yesterday the Rural Fire Service (RFS) continued to monitor a large fire burning south of Paddys Flat, which posed a mild threat to the Clarence Lodge.
An RFS spokesperson said the lodge was not in immediate danger but spotting could spread the fire quickly if the wind picked up.
There were no significant fires burning in the Clarence Valley yesterday.
Bad fire weather has been forecast over the next few days and rural property owners are being urged to have a fire plan in place.
To report a new fire call 000 immediately.
