Fireball engulfs car on highway

OCCUPANTS of a car engulfed in flames near Swan Creek on Wednesday night escaped with no major injuries.

The Rural Fire Service was called to a fireball on the Pacific Highway at 11pm after a car, believed to be a Nissan Prado, was engulfed in flames.

An ambulance went to the scene but did not report any major injuries, according to Coffs Harbour Ambulance manager Mick Major.

RFS brigades from Ulmarra and Glenugie attended the scene and quickly contained the fire but the vehicle was a “total loss”, according to Clarence Valley district manager Stuart Watts.

He said the highway was closed for a brief period of time.
