Flanagan rules out Barba return
SHARKS coach Shane Flanagan has ruled out resurrecting Ben Barba's career in the wake of reports the star fullback is set to be released from French rugby union club, Toulon.
Barba, who scored a try in the Sharks 2016 premiership-win, was released by Cronulla earlier this year after testing positive to cocaine for a second time and in-turn, triggering a mandatory 12-game suspension.
Flanagan used his Thursday morning press conference to rule a line through the former Dally M medal winner returning to the Sharks while also declaring current fullback Valentine Holmes would be the club's fullback for "the next 10-years”.
"Benny made two bad decisions,'' Flanagan said.
"He was a fantastic player for us and gave an outstanding contribution for us to win the grand final last year.
"We were going to keep him here this year, but he's made a decision to go to France and as a club we've probably moved on.
"As I said, he did some outstanding things for us, but as a club we've moved on with Val (Holmes) doing an outstanding job.
"He's going to be our fullback for the next 10 years, so as I said, sometimes you've just got to move on.”
