Folau visits Toowoomba, looking forward to rugby comeback

RUGBY UNION: Wallabies star Israel Folau is looking forward to his return to rugby action.

Speaking to The Chronicle during a visit to the Toowoomba Hospital, Folau said he feeling great after his brief Wallabies hiatus.

The 28-year-old fullback, after speaking to Wallabies coach Michael Cheika, did not feature in Australia's Test games against Japan, Wales, England and Scotland.

"I really enjoyed the break," Folau said.

"I feel fit, healthy and mentally refreshed. I'm really looking forward to returning to training and playing now though."

After promising results against Japan and Wales the Wallabies suffered heavy defeats to England and Scotland.

Despite the unfortunate end to their European tour Folau said the mood in the Wallabies camp was positive.

"Obviously we're disappointed with those results," he said.

"But it's about lessons learned for us now.

"We've taken a lot away from those games and the tour in general. We know we have some things to work on.

"Our consistency is something we need to focus - we need to be more consistent in our performances.

"As a group we're all looking to the future and moving forward. Everyone is ready to work."

With the 2018 Super Rugby season kicking off in February - Folau said he will be marking down Saturday, April 14 in his calendar.

The April date is the Waratahs first encounter with the Queensland Reds.

"I love playing against the Reds - it's always a special occasion," Folau said.

"There's so much history and passion there and it's a real challenge for us.

"Both sides really step up."
