Foran given leave of absence from Parramatta Eels

Parramatta Eels have granted captain Kieran Foran a leave of absence to deal with personal issues.

Foran, who crossed from the Manly Sea Eagles at the end of last year, has been absent from training all week ahead of the Eels' clash with the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

According to reports, the 25-year-old had spent time in hospital due to concerns about his mental health.

It is believed he has been struggling emotionally with the breakdown of his relationship with his long-time partner, who recently gave birth to their second child.

"The Parramatta Eels have granted Kieran Foran an indefinite leave of absence to seek the best possible medical treatment regarding a personal matter," the Eels said in a statement.

"The club will be making no further comment and request that the media respect Kieran's privacy at this time."

Foran missed the first week of the season with a hamstring injury but has been one of Parramatta's best players since.

Foran's clash with fellow No.7 and game-breaker Moses Mbye (Bulldogs) was to be one of the highlights of the match at ANZ Stadium.

While the length of his leave of absence is unknown, it can be expected the Kiwi international will also miss next Friday's night Anzac Test in Newcastle.

The news came as speculation mounted the NRL will next week announce the Eels will lose premiership points for salary cap rorting.
