Titans call up Don

FORMER Grafton Ghosts' fullback Anthony Don has been given a rare chance to train with the Gold Coast Titans.

Don, who signed with the Burleigh Bears this season after setting the NRRRL competition alight in 2010, is one of two players selected in the pre-season train-on squad with the Titans.

"Burleigh are the Titans' feeder club and they are allowed to nominate two players to train with the Titans," Don told the Examiner during the week. "They start training in November and go right through to February."

Don, a try-scoring machine, managed to score 13 tries for Burleigh in 2011, even after missing seven games late in the season through injury.

Unfortunately for Don, he has recently undergone shoulder surgery which will hamper his pre-season training schedule.

"I underwent a shoulder reconstruction last week, but, hopefully, it will improve enough to get through most of the training," he said. "At this stage, I certainly won't be able to do any contact, but, hopefully, with a lot of rehab it will be right for next season."

The 23-year-old Burleigh Bears winger/fullback admits making the final Titans' squad is a pipedream at this stage of his career.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for me to train with the Titans but, realistically there are no spots open for next season," he said.

"But, who knows, if I keep performing I might get my chance further down the track."
