Former Howard govt MP Brendan Nelson takes up new role

FORMER defence minister Brendan Nelson started work as the new director of the Australian War Memorial on Monday.

Dr Nelson, who served as the Howard government's last defence minister in 2006-07, was appointed in August this year.

He started as the memorial's new director today after a stint as the Australian Ambassador to the European Union, among other diplomatic roles.
