Forrest will skipper Bulls
PETER Forrest may well be a new name to Queensland cricket, but the stylish batsman has quickly established himself as a recognised leader within the Bulls camp.
Forrest has been entrusted with the captaincy when the XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls play the PKF Tasmanian Tigers in their Ryobi Cup one-day fixture at Mackay's Harrup Park tomorrow.
Forrest described it as a great honour when he spoke to the Daily Mercury yesterday.
"It's one I'm looking forward to," he said.
"I captained New South Wales in all the junior squads going through and a little bit of Second XI, so I've done it before.
"It's not necessarily foreign to me, but it's nice to be recognised at the top level."
Presented by the Daily Mercury, the Bulls take winning form into tomorrow's showcase at Harrup Park.
"I was saying to the boys just before we couldn't have asked for a better start to the season in not only the one-dayer but the four-dayer as well," Forrest added.
Forrest and his team-mates are looking forward to the challenge presented by a Tasmanian outfit which has been a pacesetter in recent seasons.
"It's always a good challenge against them, but the boys are in good shape and everyone is going well," he said.
"So fingers crossed we'll get the win."
Forrest is fresh from a player-of-the-match effort in his Queensland one-day debut and a century on debut for the Bulls in the Bupa Sheffield Shield.
He will captain the team in the absence of the injured James Hopes.
Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris will spearhead the Bulls' attack after having recovered from a hamstring complaint.
"That's a massive boost for us," Forrest said.
"I'm looking forward to throwing him the ball on the weekend."
