Fran’s salon a red hot favourite
WHEN Grafton hairdresser Fran Eggins moved to the Clarence Valley six years ago, the only people she knew were her husband's parents and grandmother.
Now her husband, who grew up in the area, often says she knows more people than him.
The rapport Mrs Eggins has with the region can be attributed to the hairdressing salon she has run in Grafton since 2009.
She said it took a while to build a steady base of clientele, but now Red Hot Hair is a firm favourite in the Valley.
When we asked people to name their preferred hairdresser on The Daily Examiner Facebook page last week, the salon outstripped all the other competition with 254 votes.
For the four full-time staff and two apprentices, the recognition of their effort has been most welcome.
"Grafton's been really good to us; it's a great community," Mrs Eggins said.
"There's been nothing but lovely support since we've been here - it's the best position on the map.
"We want to thank them for supporting us and even finding the time to vote for us."
When asked what sets Red Hot Hair apart from other hairdressers, Mrs Eggins said she spent too much time in her own salon to know.
"Most people say that they just love the friendly, casual atmosphere," she said.
"For us customer service is the biggest thing, and having a happy environment to work in," Mrs Eggins said.
"You feel like you're a part of clients' lives and everyone feels very welcome - you can always just drop in and say hello."
