$1.8M precinct funding still on the way: Hogan

FEDERAL Government funding is still on the cards for the Maclean Riverside Precinct, despite the Clarence Valley Council's decision to redistribute the $1.8 million to other elements of the project.

In the lead-up to the election, Member for Page Kevin Hogan made an election promise that the Federal Government would provide funding for stages two and three of the development of the Maclean Riverside Precinct.

During the election campaign, Mr Hogan told The Daily Examiner the funding would ensure the completion of stages two and three of the boardwalk extension from McLachlan Park to Riverside Square, and beautification works at McLachlan Park.

Mr Hogan said he now understands the funding will be used elsewhere.

"I have seen some council papers that say the money will now go to other parts of the upgrade," Mr Hogan said.

"I'm having a chat with the mayor, Jim Simmons, in the next week.

"We want to give the $1.8million to the upgrade of the riverside precinct, that money will happen and it will be given."

Mr Hogan said he didn't know exactly what the funding would be used for.

"When the money was initially promised we were told it would be for the boardwalk and now we are unclear about that," he said.

Mr Hogan added that he had been contacted by a few people from Maclean who were unhappy with the changes.

The council proposed that the $1.8 million of funding be used to cover five elements of work that could be completed with ease: McLachlan Park, court house riverfront, foreshore promenade, riverside square and Munro Lane.
