Netball game down to the wire
B&S Kitchens started strong in their clash against DEX, going goal for goal with their younger rivals.
DEX’s Leah McLachlan and Stephanie Honeybrook were dynamic in the goal circle, keeping B&S Kitchens defenders Megan Darby and Shona Muller on their toes.
However, B&S Kitchens held a one-goal advantage at the half-time break with Trudy O’Mahony’s feeds to Kim Blinman in the goal circle proving hard for their rivals to stop.
DEX came out strong in the third quarter and reclaimed the advantage on the scoreboard but were unable to shake off their opponents.
Positional attack plays by B&S Kitchens applied the pressure to the DEX defenders Katie Brown and Jess Duffield in the final term but DEX held on to win 39-34.
The game began with Spinafex’s Ally Gordon and Ashley O’Donohue taking a number of quick intercepts to give their team the first few points on the board.
RHINO Bubbles fought back with sisters Danielle and Nicky Mackie solid in defence in a number of key positions.
Spinafex’s Emily Ford used her attacking position to move the ball down the court, but took a bad fall on her ankle early in the first quarter and was out for the game.
Spinafex defender Kerry Donavan increased the pressure in the second half and the Bubbles shooters struggled to counter.
Spinafex fill-in Kaitlyn Ford played well in her third game of the day, revelling in her substitute role in A and A Reserve.
Spinafex’s other fill-in of Hannah Sherin stepped up from B grade and handled the higher grade with ease.
When Marg Hayward injured her leg late in the fourth quarter, Spinafex were reduced to six players but they survived a late charge by Bubbles to win 29-14.
