The mystery surrounding Jon Snow's fate and the consequence of Melisandre's shocking reveal may be on the backburner this week, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Expect the question of whether Snow is or isn't dead to continue well into the season, though Ramsay Bolton may be key to his resurrection.

What's Bolton up to?

Ramsay Bolton is an unhappy chappy at present but Roose Bolton's bastard heir may just have the plan to set things straight.

He slipped up in the fifth season's finale when new wife Sansa Stark and his "pet" Reek (the former Theon Greyjoy) were able to escape Winterfell.

His men were unable to recover the pair last week thanks to a well-timed intervention by Brienne and Pod, and that merely upset the maniac.

In the trailer released by HBO it appears he has formulated a plan to attack Castle Black, the home of the Night's Watch and, more importantly, Sansa's bastard brother Jon Snow.

Snow, we know, was killed in the fifth season's finale, and his lifeless body made an extensive appearance in last week's season-opener.

We know Melisandre can control incredible power, and while the revelation of her true form last week was shocking it could provide the means to which our favourite bastard can be revived.

Meanwhile:

- Brienne and Sansa are discussing Arya Stark's fate. We know she went to Braavos and is now blind, but it will take more than that minor setback to stop Brienne.

- Bran makes his long-awaited return, but in what shape is he and his pals? We last saw them fighting a group of wights, a battle during which Jojen was killed. After Meera, Jojen's sister, burned his body, she led them into a cave in which the three-eyed raven was revealed. What has Bran learned since then?

- The Mountain isn't exactly the best-looking brute anymore but the Frankenstein-like monster is as imposing as ever. As Cersei's personal bodyguard, we see the Mountain (Gregor Clegane) face some resistance from acting "on the King's orders". Oberyn Martell's poisoned spears led to the Mountain's deteriorating condition, though Qyburn's "unnatural" experiments "saved" the legendary fighter.

Episode 2, titled Home, airs today at 11am and 7.30pm on Foxtel's Showcase channel.
