BOMB specialists were called to a suburban home in Sydney on Tuesday after a gardener dug up what was believed to be an unexploded army shell in his backyard.

The puzzling device was unearthed about 3pm at Bundeena.

Army technicians were yet to arrive on Tuesday evening but according to the Herald, the shell could date back to the Second World War.
