GDSC wins cup naming rights

THE Grafton District Services Club has won the right to sponsor the 2009 Grafton Cup.

Eleven businesses vied for the naming rights as members of the Clarence River Jockey Club's Kensei Club.

Each business had paid $3000 to go into the draw, with the last name out of the hat winning the cup naming rights. GDSC secretary manager Arthur Lysaught said the club was ecstatic to have won the draw.

“We have always supported the cup carnival and now we get the chance to have the naming rights to the biggest race of the week, it's just great,” he said.

The Kensei Club sponsorship draw was held on Saturday night at a gala dinner at the Grafton racetrack.

Companies that supported the club this year included: The Daily Examiner, Tooheys, Ken Casson Motors, Grafton District Services Club, Clarence Coast Motors, Grafton Gas and Plumbing, Maclean Home Timber and Hardware, A Fletcher and Associates, Roches Family Hotel, Mark Bloomer Transport and Herb Blanchard Haulage. Each company received a CRJC sponsorship package for the year.
