THE South Grafton Ex-Services Motor Cycle Club will stage the first round of its club championships at Gnudwoc Park, South Grafton, on Sunday.
Club spokesperson Sharon Mitchell said officials were expecting a big contingent of visiting riders, all eager to get some practise on the track in preparation for the prestigious North Coast Series - the first round of which will be held at Gnudwoc Park on February 28/March 1. This weekend's event will attract riders as young as four years of age up to those in the over-35 years class, and all ages in between.
Mitchell said fun was the main agenda for the day, especially for the pee wee riders in the 4-9 years age bracket.
“But on the track all bets are off and the riders put their friendships aside until the race is over and they become highly competitive on the track,” Mitchell said.
“It doesn't matter how old or young the riders are, there is a place for them at South Grafton Ex-Services Motor Cycle Club events.
“This year the club will continue with its open format of one 20-minute moto at the end of the day's racing. This format proved to be very popular with the riders last year and spectacular for the crowds to watch.
“At the end of the day such a long ride really sorts out the fitness of the riders - it is definitely not a class for the faint-hearted to enter.”
Mitchell said all were welcome at the club's events - there is no spectator entry fee and full canteen facilities available.
“Any new riders who want to have a go for the first time, need to give us a call on 0427 460464 so we can explain the licensing requirements to them,” Mitchell said.
Riders who already have a Motorcycling Australia licence are all welcome to come along and join the club.
