Genuine XW GT does the job
Make, model and year? It's a genuine 1970 XW GT Falcon.
What's this car mean to you? It means everything to me, probably more than any car I've owned.
I've owned a heap of car and bikes. I've owned this car twice. I first owned it when I was 21.
I bought it off a local bloke. I had a couple of hot Holdens but kept blowing up gearboxes and axles and decided a GT Falcon was the way to go.
I bought an XB GT Falcon which was an awesome car but got into a bit of strife and ended up selling it and was looking for another one.
I found the XW and it's been a really good car. It's never let me down, ever. It's never broken anything.
I then sold it to go overseas to London and I wish I never sold it, and 17 years later I bought it back. So I own it again and that means a lot.
Where have you been in it? As far west to Moranbah, I've taken it to Airlie a lot and it's been all around Mackay. I used to run it out to the drags and it's probably been out to the harbour 3000 times.
What's your favourite memory of the car? My favourite memory would probably be confirming that a 4V 4 speed GT will do 140mph.
Would you ever trade it in? No never. I've lost it once and I will never, ever sell the car again.
How's it fit into your lifestyle? Good, my wife appreciates the car because we have some history with it from when we were first going out, my kids really like the car. We are proud participants of Covered in Chrome run by Russel Soper. It's a good event to get out and meet everyone.
And as far as a car I can just come home, start, enjoy, it doesn't get hot, it puts up with what you throw at it and it suits me really well.
How do you look after it? I put petrol in it, new plugs and points once a year, whether it needs it or not. That's about it.
What advice would you give to someone wanting an older car? Find what you want. Don't worry about what people say about different makes and models. If you like it, enjoy it.
Australia has a big history with cars and we made some great ones. Like what you like and enjoy them because life's too short and if you stand around too long you wondering what you should or shouldn't own then you're probably going to miss out.
What's your dream ride? Probably this car because I've thought about it so much. Moffatt's Phase 3 or Brocks A9X Hatch wouldn't be a bad as a daily driver. But seriously, this is my dream ride.
I took so long to get it back. There wasn't many weeks that went by in the 17 odd years that I didn't own it that I thought about owning it.
