Editorial - Friday, August 23: Get over it and just give

A REQUEST to DEX staff from Tim Howard to give blood was met with a great deal of enthusiasm - until a few of us read the form we had to fill in.

The form itself delves quite deeply into most areas of your personal history.

It's not as though I have a particularly shady past; in fact, I think most would describe it as pretty standard, or even a bit mundane, but there were some probing questions there I had never even thought about answering for myself, let alone for anyone else.

So I'm not going to lie and say I wasn't relieved when Tim announced there were too many people putting up their hands and no more could be accepted.

But with The DEX throwing down the challenge to other businesses and organisations to gather as many people as possible to donate, I'm not sure I'll be out of the woods for long.

After all, I'm not sure we can ask JoJo Newby to relive her ordeal every month.

I know the cause far out-weighs having to answer a few awkward questions, which are going to be kept confidential anyway, so I guess I just need to get over it and do the right thing.

If there's some minor reason why you have been holding out donating blood, ask yourself, is it really worth it?

I know the answer for me is a definite no.
