Give blood this Christmas

BLOOD donations are urgently needed from Clarence Valley people to save lives over the holiday period.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service has put an urgent call out for at least 30 eligible people to donate blood at the Grafton Base Hospital on December 30.

Blood Service’s CEO Jennifer Williams said 26,000 donations of blood were needed nationally every week to meet demands.

But during the holiday season fewer people donated, even though the demand continued.

“The demand for blood products never takes a holiday and that’s why we’re encouraging people to give blood or plasma this Christmas,” Ms Williams said.

“Your blood or plasma can help a young mother, a grandfather or a neighbour celebrate another Christmas with their families.”

To make an appointment at the Grafton Base Hospital Blood Collection Clinic on December 30 between 9.30am to 1.30pm call 13 14 95. You can also visit www.donateblood.com.au for more information.
