Gladiators set to go all-out

GROUP 2 chief Warren Gilkinson believes the way players have reacted to the appointment of coach Steve Carter will be the secret ingredient when crossing swords with Group 3 today at Jack Neal Oval in Taree.

"From the moment Steve got them together at training they were eating out of his hand," said Gilkinson, the last coach to take the Gladiators to a Country final.

"Instead of looking around bored they hung on every word he said and we've all learned a lot.

"He's been able to share the mental aspects of playing rep footy and I'm as confident as I've ever been that we are ready to win."

The squad lost Michael Spence and Ryan Binge but Orara's Steve Walker earned his call up with a mighty game against Woolgoolga.

"Steve drove up from Kempsey at late notice to train under Steve which shows how keen the boys are to please the coach," Gilkinson added.

"We have some great club and player combinations with Coffs and Sawtell dominating the halves and front row.

"There's also heaps of speed out wide in the backline for scoring tries."

In other representative news the East Coast Dolphins under-16s take on Western Rams in Dubbo this morning for a place in the AAMI Country Rugby League Championship grand final.
