Glen takes out Brooms talent quest

IT’S not every day that a sheet metal supervisor gets to jump on the back of a ute with a microphone and belt out What About Me? to a crowd of hundreds.

But Glen Roots was surely not going to miss the opportunity.

It’s the second year in a row that Glen’s taken out the open section of the Brooms Head Family Fun Day talent quest and by the sounds of it, he’ll be coming back next year to defend his title.

Glen doesn’t usually sing for crowds, just in the shower or to annoy his kids, but there was no stopping him and he made two appearances on the ute, backing up the Moving Pictures single with a melancholic rendition of Wendy Matthews’ The Day You Went Away.

He said singing did however run in the family with his 15-year-old daughter singing in a band down south.

“She would definitely not want me to join her though,” he laughed.
