Tug-o-war returns to Wooli

AFTER a four-year hiatus from the schedule at the Australian Goanna Pulling Championships in Wooli, tug-of-war will make a welcome return to the program for the event's 25th anniversary.

Scott Ensbey will lead the Grafton Gorillas to battle against recently crowned Australian Heavyweight Champions, The Brisbane Bulldogs.

Teams also taking part in the comp are former heavyweight champs Dumaresq Gladiators from Tenterfield and Maitland TOW Club.

Not to be outdone by the big guns, the Wooli Hotel Warriors will be represented.

“Reasonably fit” men and women in the Grafton area interested in giving tug-of-war a go should contact Scott on 0448868205.

The event is planned for Sunday, October 3 from 9am as part of the Goanna Pulling event.

There will also be woodchops, sprint races, brick carrying races and children's races with more than $5300 in prize money up for grabs.

Other highlights are whip cracking demonstrations, market stalls, carnival rides, Old MacDonald's Baby Farm animals, a rock climbing wall and plenty of food and drinks.
