Goanna pulling lures big crowd

THE exciting and hotly contested Goanna Pulling World Championship went ahead yesterday without a hitch.

A big crowd gathered at the Wooli Sports Ground, despite the overcast and drizzly conditions.

In the men's heavyweight division, Adam Barret took out the title while veteran competitor Wayne "Tank" Phillips, who came out of retirement this year, was the runner-up.

In the middleweight section, John Causley was deemed to be the winner against Alex Jefferies in the final.

Nathan Griggs won the lightweight division and Damian O'Mahoney came in second.

The younger boys division was won by Jake Reynolds, who beat Connor Williams.

Rebecca McPherson won the women's title, and Christine Davis came second.

Grafton Gorillas were beaten in the tug of war by Dorrigo.
