Golfers swing by to help school

THE 2010 fundraising golf day proved a hit for the St Joseph’s Primary School community yesterday.

Teeing off in the four-player Ambrose-style tournament at Grafton District Golf Club were 52 players in 13 teams, vying for the champion team title.

The winners were John Tory, Peter Tonkin, Martin Hodgson and Andrew Ryder, followed closely by James and Anne Morrissey and Jim and Tracey O’Donohue in second.

Coming a distant third were Jenny and Ken Dewar, Gaye Kelsey and Tony Rose.

Meanwhile, the putting green was filled with 40 children in a friendly putting competition.

Organiser and St Joseph’s assistant principal Frank Jones said there were no winners on the greens.

“It was all for fun,” he said.

Mr Jones said it was exciting to see new parents from the school take the opportunity to get out and enjoy the day.

He said staff and parents were “overwhelmed” by the generosity of local businesses who supported the event.
