Golf's law-makers propose sweeping changes

GOLF: The biggest overhaul of golf's convoluted rule book in more than 30 years will eliminate penalty dramas like that which engulfed world No.1 Dustin Johnson in his US Open win.

More than 50 changes have been proposed to make the Rules of Golf simpler, easier to understand, avoid penalty traps and speed up the pace of play.

The "Dustin Johnson rule" is sure to be the tag for the wise tweak that will void the one-shot penalty should a ball or ball-marker move on the putting green by accident.

American Johnson was lining up a putt for par early in the tense final round of last year's US Open at Oakmont when his ball moved slightly and he pulled away.
