Good Samaritan hands in stack of cash to police

AFTER a good Samaritan handed in a wad of cash, Mackay Police are searching for a resident whose wallet may be a little lighter than usual.

Senior Constable Steve Smith said a large sum of money was found outside a business at Caneland Central, on Mangrove Rd in the Mackay city on Saturday at 11.30am.

Police have not revealed how much money was found, but Snr Const Smith said "multiple notes of varied denominations were found".

He has encouraged anyone who may have information about who owns this sum of money to phone police as soon as possible.

Proof of ownership will be required to claim the money.
