Goodes’ grief, what was the fuss about?

OKAY, surely everyone's had a chance to take a few deep breaths and reflect on Adam Goodes' controversial post-goal 'war dance'.

Talk about a storm in a teacup. You wonder what the reaction would have been like had Sydney teammate Lewis Jetta kicked a goal against Carlton last Friday night and was able to perform the action as he too intended.

Both he and Goodes had formulated the idea to use the dance - which, it needs to be pointed out, was designed and used by members of the Flying Boomerangs under-16s indigenous representative team - during Indigenous Round.

Goodes unleashed it after kicking a major in the second quarter at the SCG, and to say it caught everyone else off guard would be an understatement.

Met with shock and awe, it even had 'Big Bad Bustling' Barry Hall taking umbrage.

Many wondered whether it had been in response to the week the two-time Brownlow Medallist had just had, when publicly questioning why Hawthorn supporters had booed him the previous round, or in retaliation to something that may have been said to him by Blues' supporters in the crowd on the night.

But, anyone would have thought he had an actual spear in his hand and was threatening to send it flying into the nearest Carlton fan.

Goodes has become such a divisive figure due to the way he often conducts himself on and off the field, and has to expect the odd boo.

But, full respect to him ... and his decision to perform the 'war dance' on such an important occasion.
