Grafton a beacon for hockey's best

MORE than 140 players are in Grafton to contest the NSW CHS Girls’ Hockey Championships.

Players and officials from around the State began arriving on Monday, with games commencing yesterday.

Four Sydney regions and six country regions are vying for the title of state champions.

NSW CHS Hockey convener Jacqui Charlton said the facilities at Grafton were ideal to hold such an event and she expected most motels in the city would be booked out.

“We have over 140 girls from 10 regions plus just as many parents and supporters,” Ms Charlton said.

“I’ve been to Grafton before and it’s great to see the new playing surface.

“They certainly know how to look after us in Grafton … we love coming to the country areas.”

The carnival wraps up with finals tomorrow.
