Grafton High wins through to final

GRAFTON High advanced to the North Coast final of the open boys CHS cricket knockout with an 84-run win over Macksville High.

Grafton High won the toss and elected to bat on the flat Ellem Oval wicket. After losing two early wickets, Lewis Chevalley and Jake Frame formed a solid partnership with Chevalley out just before drinks for a patient 22. Frame went on to top score with an aggressive 76.

Shannon Connor (10), Brenden Cotten (14) and Wayne Lentfer (10) were the others to make double figures. Grafton were all out in the 39th over for 169.

This was a fine team effort against an outstanding bowling attack.

In reply, Macksville attacked early despite some fine pace bowling from Riley Winter and Jason Limbert and looked to be in control of the match at 1/48 after 10 overs. The introduction of the left-armer Luke Shipman (4/20), and leg-spinner Brenden Cotten (3/9) into the attack proved a decisive move as they tore through the Macksville line-up.

Steven Sampson and Brendan Mostyn then took a wicket each to have the visitors all out for 85.

Wicket-keeper Chevalley took three catches and had a stumping in an innings where only one batsman reached double figures.
