Hogan opens own purse strings to have a Grafton presence

POLITICIANS are often criticised for putting their hands into our pockets to get extra funds but on this occasion Kevin Hogan has raided his own wallet.

The Federal MP for Page yesterday celebrated the opening of his Grafton office in Prince St.

With the MP being entitled to only one office paid for by the Commonwealth for the electorate, which is in Lismore, Mr Hogan decided he would pay to have a presence in the southern part of Page.

The office will be managed by Jason Thompson and Mr Hogan said on non-sitting weeks he gets to the Clarence two-three days a week.

"It is fantastic to have this office," he said.

"It took a while to get approval, even though it's funded by me.

"You have to have a presence in the Clarence Valley that people have access to.

"It's great to have Jason here, who is a Grafton local. Plenty of people know him anyway and hopefully they feel comfortable to come and see him and have a chat to him."

The office is at 1/83 Prince St and will be open Tuesday-Friday 8.30am-5pm. The office phone number is 6643 3973.

While the office has no disabled access, Mr Hogan said he had made an arrangement with CRANES further along Prince St to use its office for any meetings with people unable to use the stairs.
