Grafton teams land treble at Masters

ALL three Grafton teams competing at the Women's Masters State Championships finished third in their respective divisions.

The tournament at Newcastle and Wyong last weekend was the last of the representative commitments for 2014.

Grafton Over 35 (1) started with a 1-all draw with Southern Highland before a goalless draw against Maitland, a 1-0 loss to Cowra, a 3-0 win over Port Macquarie/Hastings and a 1-all draw with Parramatta.

On the fourth day they beat Southern Highlands 2-0 in the playoff for third.

Libby Welldone collected the coaches award.

Over 35 (2) played in Newcastle and went down 4-0 to eventual winners Shoalhaven in their opener before losing 1-0 to Warringah.

They then played out a goalless draw with Bathurst, lost 1-0 to both Cessnock and Central Coast and then downed Parramatta 1-0.

In their final game they lost 2-1 to South Coast.

Coaches award went to Tracey Faulstone.

The first game for the Over 50s against Tumut finished as a goalless draw (it must have been coach's knowledge of their centre forward - i.e. best friends and played hockey together at school in Young).

They then beat Dubbo 1-0, accounted for Scone by the same scoreline before a goalless draw against Port Macquarie/Hastings. They then lost 2-0 to eventual winners Nepean 2-0 and played out a goalless draw against Armidale.

The coaches award went to Pam Burchell.

Grafton teams were the 'Best Attired' teams at the weekend, especially in the pink beanies courtesy of Hip Pocket Workware.

Our association has experienced the very sad loss of players this year and wearing these pink beanies was our way of showing our support.

Many thanks to Libby Welldone and her helpers for arranging this.

State selection

CONGRATULATIONS to Amber Sinclair and Grace Young who last weekend were selected in the Hockey NSW Girls under-13 State team.

They will play at National Championships in Brisbane from October 4-12.

Grace's brother Zac, and Elliott Speed have been selected in the Boys under-13 State team to compete in Adelaide at the same time.

WITH the finals fast approaching, teams need to be aware of the rule regarding playing players down.

August 9 is the third last game before the semi-finals, so you cannot play any players down.

When playing across a grade it is essential you remember the 50% rule.
