LUXURY Mayfair hotel, the Sofitel London St James has opened its grand new restaurant, The Balcon.
Ideally located in the heart of Mayfair at 8 Pall Mall near to Buckingham Palace, The Balcon is a luxurious brasserie set in Sofitel's dramatic grade II listed building.
The heritage listed building and elegant Sofitel surrounds provide a perfect backdrop to the fine French-British cuisine on offer from head chef Vincent Menager, whose previous experience includes working under Albert Roux, Frédéric Anton (Le Pré Catelan, Paris), Alain Dutournier and Alain Ducasse.
The timeless space has been designed in collaboration with Russell Sage Studios (previous projects include The Savoy and The Goring Hotel) and Gorgeous Group, and the sense of arrival and theatricality is evident throughout each of the distinct areas: the brasserie, the St James Bar, a custom-made charcuterie bar, a Champagne Balcony and tasting table and private dining room seating 14.
The grand brasserie is named after the Champagne Balcony, which frames the brasserie with two oak spiral staircases and houses the champagne vault and tasting table situated beneath.
The cuisine thoughtfully blends French and British tradition, whilst combining innovation and a modern twist to effectively link the two cultures. The menus will showcase classic French and British cooking styles and ingredients with the restaurant open for breakfast, morning tea and savouries, lunch, French and English afternoon tea, champagne and cocktails, charcuterie, dinner and late night dining.
The St James Bar takes inspiration from Coco Chanel's 1920's Paris apartment.
Bar manager Mathieu Bruno created the cocktail list and highlights include vintage cocktails from antique recipe books as well as Sofitel's own champagne angel, Christina Larsson, who will provide expert advice on champagne and English sparkling wine.
