Grand start to Jaca festivities
THEY danced until midnight at the South Grafton Ex-Servicemen's Club, celebrating the official start to the 79th annual Jacaranda Festival.
The Jacaranda Ball traditionally signals the festival launch and Saturday night's affair was no different.
Event co-organiser Wendy Taylor said she was pleased with the crowds, calling the evening "a great success".
"We achieved what we wanted to achieve. It was a lovely night with candidates, their families, sponsors and committee members all coming together to enjoy bonding time and relax," Mrs Taylor said.
"It was a fun night and a great chance to showcase the girls."
Mrs Taylor said close to 200 people attended and there was a good mix of young and old.
Clearly unfazed by all the hard work that had gone into organising and running the event, Mrs Taylor said she and fellow organiser Jenna Atherton were keen to do it again in 2014.
"We've already put our hands up for next year," she said. "Of course it will be the 80th anniversary so it will be extra special and will include a reunion."
Guest of honour Dr Alan Tyson pronounced the 2013 Jacaranda Festival "open".
