Denyer’s shock move: Star joins brekkie radio

GRANT Denyer will join Em Rusciano's breakfast radio show in 2018.

It was announced today that the Family Feud star will co-host the Sydney radio show next year alongside Rusciano and Ed Kavalee.

Comedian Harley Breen, who was Rusciano's co-host this year, announced last month that he wouldn't be returning to the program in 2018.

Rusciano said in a statement, "I'm delighted to have the blonde bombshell, glamorous bogan and Australia's best friend join our show."

Kavalee added: "He's one of the biggest names in Australian showbiz (that's not a short joke). We have a brand-new microphone and booster seat ready to go (that was a short joke)."

The trio have their work cut out for them with the breakfast show currently struggling in the ratings with just a 2.9 per cent audience share compared to FM market leaders Kyle and Jackie O who have an 11.1 per cent share.

Denyer is no stranger to working breakfast hours after his seven years on Sunrise as the roving weatherman.

But the gruelling hours wore him down and he quit the Channel Seven show at the end of 2013 citing "full-blown chronic fatigue".

"I just pushed too hard, too long. I did that at the toll of myself and my family. It was a juggernaut that I couldn't stop," Denyer told news.com.au a few months after leaving the show.

The bubbly presenter said doctors told him his organs were running at just 7 per cent and he reached a point where he was sleeping 23 hours a day.

"They'd stand me up on camera, they'd wake me up in between crosses and put me in front of the camera and count me in," Denyer said of his weatherman days.

"I didn't want to walk away. They asked me to do another year on Sunrise and I agreed to it but I didn't feel like I should. I wanted to, but I could have killed myself. It was a big toll on my family.

"I didn't see the warning signs. I thought I was invincible and I fu**ed up."

2Day FM breakfast with Em, Grant and Ed will be on-air from January 15.
