Green light for new bridge?

A SECOND Grafton bridge could end the Valley's proud boast of being free of traffic lights.

The latest Roads and Maritime Services document about the bridge contains three route options which include replacement of roundabouts with traffic lights.

The report on route options for a second crossing at Grafton also includes an "assumed date of opening" of 2019.

Option A proposes a two-lane bridge just upstream of the present bridge and replacing roundabouts with traffic lights at Fitzroy and Villiers and Villiers and Pound.

Option C, a new two-lane bridge linking into Pound St, would require construction of lights at the Clarence St intersection and replacement of the roundabout at Villiers St with lights.

Option E, a two-lane crossing from Cowan St in South Grafton linking directly to Villiers St, would include lights at Fitzroy and Pound Sts.

The final three options, 11, 14 and 15, further downstream of the present bridge, do not include traffic lights.
