Greens support hemp food plan

THE Northern Rivers is missing out on a slice of the lucrative $1 billion worldwide market in hemp products.

At least that is the view of the Greens, who will spruik the benefits of hemp in Lismore on Friday.Greens MP and agriculture spokesman Jeremy Buckingham will join the Greens candidate for Lismore, Adam Guise, on a tour of a property at Goolmangar.

They will be joined by pecan and rice farmer Frank Boyle and Hemp Foods Australia chief executive officer Paul Benhaim.

The Greens policy is for the legalisation of hemp seed food products in line with the rest of the world and with recommendations by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.

Mr Boyle will discuss the benefits of growing hemp for his farm and for the region.
