Grieve turns Westlawn in circles as total proves too much
EASTS V WESTLAWN: The talents of Easts leg-spinner Jackson Grieve were on full display when the 15-year-old took four scalps while bowling the bulk of the overs against a hardened Westlawn.
While the batting side played with confidence and were controlled at the crease, a tough 367-run target just appeared too far out of its reach all afternoon at McKittrick Park.
On a deck that proved a touch two-paced, opener Simon Wilson (32) set the innings off well alongside Kallen Lawrence (5) before he was removed by a dogged Adam Spies (3 for 36 off 14.4).
Then a partnership blossomed between the two experienced heads Jason Rainbow (55) and Rohan Hackett (19), and they added 48 for the third wicket.
Rainbow continued his season-long form in another strong 67-run stand with Brad Inmon (39) but when the veteran fell to the spin of Grieve, the writing was on the wall for Westlawn.
Impressive juniors Aidan Cahill (14) and Noah Green (14) continued to develop their strokeplay at the crease and withstood an attacking combination of Grieve and Spies but the result was already academic.
Ben Shaw (2 for 52 off 10) impressed in several spells and managed the all-important wicket of Hackett while young gun Jacob Ellis (1 for 17 off 5) also bowled consistent line and length, making scoring hard through the middle overs.
