'Gypsy' arrested over robbery

A MAN wanted in three states over the ruthless robbery of an elderly war veteran in Sydney's west has been arrested.

Police will allege the 22-year-old was part of a group of travelling gypsies targeting the elderly in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

On Wednesday, May 16, the man allegedly tricked a 90-year-old man into allowing him into his Eastwood home by claiming he was a tradesman.

While in the house, the accused allegedly stole cash and the wedding rings belonging to the victim's late wife and father.

Late Tuesday, he was tracked down at home in Wilberforce, NSW.

He appeared in a Penrith court on Wednesday and was refused bail.

Eastwood Local Area Commander, Superintendent Peter Marcon said he hoped the arrest would provide some comfort for the victim.

Investigations are continuing into a number of robberies believed to be linked to the travelling group.
